NHRA: NHRA Arizona Nationals- Chandler, AZ
Monday, March 24, 2025:
Reigning Funny Car World Champion, Austin Prock, had his bid to repeat as Arizona Nationals Champion go up in a cloud of tire smoke Sunday at Firebird Motorsports Park and with it his first opportunity to secure Funny Car win number 300 for John Force Racing.
Trying to put the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS in the winner’s circle for the second straight year at Firebird, Prock lost in the finals to journeyman Paul Lee, who had his own problems, but got to the stripe first in 4.030 seconds at 313.22 miles per hour.
Prock reached the finals by narrowly defeating teammate Jack Beckman and the #PEAKsquad in the semifinals. Beckman’s PEAK Chevy was the most consistent car all weekend and the quickest on race day (3.910 seconds in the first round) despite the narrow loss to Prock in the semifinals.
In Top Fuel, Brittany Force’s day ended on a particularly frustrating note when she had to shut down the Monster Energy Dragster due to an oil leak detected by her crew on the burnout prior to her semifinal match with eventual race winner Shawn Langdon.
After the event in Phoenix, all three JFR drivers made significant moves in the point standings. Prock will start next week’s Winternationals in the number six position in the Funny Car driver standings behind teammate Jack Beckman, who charged all the way up to the number two spot after advancing to the semifinals and securing bonus point in every qualifying round so far this season. Brittany Force moved up to number five in Top Fuel after a resurgent performance in the Monster Energy dragster.
The NHRA Mission Foods tour resumes March 28-30th at In-N-Out Pomona Dragstrip in Pomona, California for the 65th annual Winternationals.
