The John Force Racing team had a strong outing in the 68th annual NHRA US Nationals in Indianapolis Labor Day weekend, sending both Brittany Force and Robert Hight to the final rounds in Top Fuel and Funny Car respectively. John Force would advance to the semifinals in Funny Car while Austin Prock’s day would end early in the opening round of Top Fuel.
Top Fuel number one qualifier and new track record holder, Brittany Force, would defeat Dan Mercier in the opening round. Force would then defeat Josh Hart in the second round and Doug Kalitta in the semifinals to face off with three-time Top Fuel champion Antron Brown in the finals. In a great side-by-side race with Brown, Force would come up just short of her first US Nationals win with a 3.714 second run to Antron’s 3.706 for the win.
In Funny Car, number two qualifier, Robert Hight, defeated John Smith in the opening round. Hight would go on to race Matt Hagen in the second round in what was the best race of the day in Funny Car. Hight ran 3.861 to Hagan’s 3.867 to take the win to advance to the semifinals.
In a pedal fest right off the line, Hight would recover first to defeat Bob Tasca III, punching his ticket to the finals against number one qualifier and Pep Boys Call Out winner Ron Capps. Again, Hight would smoke the tires early in the run, giving Capps his first US Nationals win.
John Force would take the PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevy to the semifinals in Funny Car after defeating Paul Lee in the opening round, then Blake Alexander in the quarterfinals before coming up short to the eventual race winner Ron Capps in the semifinals.
Teammate Austin Prock came up short in the opening round of Top Fuel to Saturday’s Pep Boys Call Out winner Steve Torrance with a 3.774 to Torrance’s 3.693 second run.
The next event on the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series schedule is the first race of the Countdown to the Championship, September 15-17 in Reading, Pennsylvania.
